OK fast and loose without a safety net etc. This is my first attempt at a photo montage. I wrote a song today (I always seem to have the muse on a Sunday) to back it and this is the result. When I say wrote a song it is a series of verses with no chorus and they are just a few thoughts on a theme.
I realize now that I've been a bit hard on Kelvin. He really just is a man of strong opinions and hey! why should we Scots have a chip on the shoulder about him? By way of an apology to Kelvin I've written a wee song dedicated to him and I hope there are no hard feelings.
Edit: Anyone wishing to download the song go to today's post on the blog CLICK HERE.
Having played live both with bands and solo over the years the words "This is one of my own songs" can induce a feeling of dread in both performer and audience alike. In this medium it's ok because you don't have to listen if you don't want to!
This is one I wrote more years ago than I care to remember. It's demo quality and it's called "Say When".
Any comments/constructive crit welcome.
I wrote this wee tarradidlle a few years ago. We used to play it in a previous band I was in. I harbour a notion to get all my songs together and compile a cd - not of course for a late attempt at startom but just for posterity.
Anyhoo being off today and feeling the need to do something, I made a rough demo of this song. Please be kind and reassuring with any comments!
Some things are always with us. I first learned a tune on the 'moothie' when I was about three years old and it was an ever present in my toybox when I was a kid. My dad would teach me little tunes which ranged from nursery rhymes to Ulster folk tunes (!).
Then for many years I didn't play it at all although when I joined a band in my teens playing guitar and singing I'd stick a harmonica in a rack and play All Along the Watchtower and Knockin' on Heaven's door in true sook blaw Dylan style.
Many years passed and I almost forgot about the wee instrument. Then in my early 30's I bought a couple of harmonicas and began to practice again. I decided to learn how to play blues properly, auditioned and before I knew it I was back playing and singing live in a band after a break of about 14 years. Years later I'm still managing to get away with it!

The soundclip here is of Radio Scotland presenters Jim Spence and Robbie Shepherd along with myself at the BBC Christmas Scotland Christmas Lunch a couple of years ago. Possibly the first and only time Scotland the Brave and Stone Fox Chase have been made in to a medley!
